Greyfriars Burial Ground Perth December 2011 |
Greyfriars burial ground is to be found South of Canal Street in Perth and contains one of the finest collections of old gravestones to be found in Perth. Greyfriars became a burial ground in 1580 when the kirkyard of ran out of space. A Franciscan Friary was founded here in 1496. Many of the stones picture the trade or profession of the person buried such as bakers tools,a press, napping shears, gloves and tools of the mason.
