Elcho Castle Perth May |
Visit to Elcho Castle just outside Perth on the Rynd Road. Built during a trasitional period in Scottish architecture. It combines the imposing exterior of a castle with the decorative interior of a mansionhouse. It is well preserved for its era and changed little since it was built. It overlooks the River Tay to the North with a courtyard enclosed by an outer wall to the south. Of special interest are many gunholes at ground level, the iron cages protecting the windows and the decorative plaster inside. The staff are very helpful. A must do trip when staying in Perth.
